Every day we deal with this skill (or the lack of it 🤪).
To be able to stand up, we need balance. To be able to walk or run, we need balance. And even to sit still (and not fall over like a sack of potatoes) we need to have balance!
This ability is so crucial that we learn it unconsciously through our infancy/early childhood. As we start to crawl and take our first steps, we are learning to balance ourselves. But with time (and by the lifestyle choices we make - like lying on the couch now? Hehe), we tend to lose this.
The basic movements in ballroom dancing simply rely on us moving our bodies without falling down or tripping (crazy, right? 😜). Just take a step and notice how many adjustments your whole body has to make to get there and stay there. It's kind of magical that we can do all of that without thinking at each step of the process.
Ballroom dancing can expand this awareness and allow you to be more attuned to your own body. How do you change weight from one leg to the other? How to collect your feet and control the speed of your movement? How to use your foot to propel you to the next step? The list could go on and on.
And I am not even talking about partnership and the effect of another person's balance on you yet.
Developing your balance can help you walk better, run better, prevent falls, etc. In essence, it can allow you to make better use of this "machine" called the human body.
Start dancing and let me know what other benefits of ballroom dancing you discover in your life. 💃🕺
Big hugs!
