Hey!
I really like sports, not only because of the physical aspects of the competition but especially to experience the mental and emotional side of that.
How many times did you see the underdog rise from the bottom and claim the title 🏆?
Or how many times did you watch the great player's emanating power spread so deep around him/her that the environment was dominated and the other side didn't have a chance no matter how hard they tried?
I was watching a documentary about Michael Jordan and his history with the Bulls. There was a moment that really caught me.
They were practicing on the court, just shooting balls 🏀 to the rim randomly from the middle of the court. Then one of the players suggested that they should bet to see who could hit the farthest shot. Of course, many players joined for the fun, and you know that those bets weren't five bucks. 💰
Between one shot and another, one of the players said something like this: "I am not going to enter… I might miss the shot". And was instantly followed by Jordan's comment: "Why are you thinking about missing a shot that you didn't take?"
I paused the documentary! That question made me start thinking about a lot of things.
How many times do we think about a "future failure"? That something that we will do is going to go wrong. And I'm not saying to not plan for the cause of failure, but we really think that we won't succeed.
We did not even try, and we are already feeling all these crap emotions, right?
And already shaping the future where we failed and have to deal with all the problems that this will create, planning explanations and excuses to justify something that didn't even happen! 🤯
We are really crazy sometimes. If we can do that with a "future failure," why not create an idea of great success? 🤩
Our confidence affects how we think and how we act. And sometimes, we can have some curveballs thrown at us in one of those nasty moments.
There are a lot of books and activities that can help us to improve our confidence levels.
I'm not saying we will get Jordan's confidence, but we can try to improve, right?
And of course, that ballroom dance is a great tool to help with that.
When you dance, you are going into deep contact with yourself, and sometimes you can even "touch" some realms that are hidden from our daily lives.
When you dance, you're doing a physical activity which is excellent just by itself.
Then you add the component of another partner, meaning that you're not alone in that. You are sharing this incredible moment with someone else. 🥰
And on top of all that you add the music that you love. We can get really deep in our emotions, believe me. (And remember that all that can be done in a safe and controlled environment - I know some people that are already starting to panic with only this description 😝 - Relax).
Dancing has deep roots in us, human beings. You might not get in your first lesson, but as soon as you allow yourself to trust in the real you and your capability, you can start to take each step on the dance floor without a doubt.
And then your ability can begin to reflect outside of the dancing realm.
You can start taking some steps outside of the dance floor, and maybe that can change your "life dance". 💃🕺
Big Hugs!
