Hey!
When was the last time that you tried something new 🤸♀️? Something that you have never done before 😲? It could be as simple as tasting a new recipe or turning right instead of left on the same route you take from work.
It’s crazy to realize how long ago that might be, right? Just to point out a single fact, you were born as a cute little baby 👶 that did not know anything besides crying (and making tons of 💩). But look at you now! How many different things you are able to do!
Just being able to read and speak is insanely complicated from the perspective of learning, and we probably don’t even spend a second thinking about how hard (and how amazing) those skills are. 🤩
So, maybe now you’re thinking - why did I stop trying new things? Did we just run out of options? 😜 I don’t think so.
There is a variety of reasons that cause us to be like that. I believe the main one is because we get better at the things we do the most, and we get comfortable doing them without encountering any major problems.
It feels good to be in a place where you have some control. Where you understand the rules, the pieces and how they are organized. We feel safe there. We built a dome of order into the chaos of life. We created this “comfort zone,” and want to stay in it. After all, we worked really hard to create and develop that place. So, it makes total sense to fully use it, right?
Yes! But (there’s always a but, right?) there is a catch.
Our horizons become narrower and limited because we tend to avoid everything that could take us, even a small step outside of our comfort zone.
So, it’s good and it’s great but if you are afraid of stepping out just a little bit that could become a prison, right? Even if it’s shiny and beautiful, you’re still locked inside of that. Pretty crazy, right?
And it goes against our natural tendencies. Remember what I said about the “baby you”? We are learners by nature. We explore the space outside (and “inside”) by testing and trying to understand things. But we tend to forget this process and lock ourselves in our “shiny comfortable prison zone”.
So, start to be free again! 🙌👇
Start to experience that freedom of not being defined by that
"prison zone".
And I know something that can help with this process.😁
Ballroom dance, of course. Almost everyone that steps into the studio is doing that. Even when they say that they are fine, you can see beneath their eyes and body language that they are pushing themselves. Pushing to get a little bit out of their “comfort zone” and try something new.
And by allowing themselves to try and accomplish their quests (because everyone - I mean everyone - can learn to dance) they start to remember how strong they are and how powerful they can become. 💪🦸🦸♂️
And that “terrible fear” of trying new things? It starts to shrink little by little and we can start to see life through new filters because it’s never too late to learn anything.
Bring back your brave nature and start taking your steps (just like dancing). 💃🕺
Big hugs.
